mission

Resonance d+a is a design and architectural practice based in the Gold Coast Hinterland, dedicated to delivering quality design responses through a personalised service for clients. Servicing South East Queensland and beyond, we aim to take our diverse experience and focus it into personalised contact and product delivery to ensure client requirements are not only understood but followed through to the last detail. Whether your project has many constraints or few, hardened preconceptions or none, with Resonance d+a, you will have access to a personal architect whose sole aim is to breathe life into your vision of space and experience by drawing on materials and the environment in ways you might not expect.

Design is a passion, and we firmly believe good design can significantly enhance one's experience of the environment and general awareness. This can take many forms: it can create a greater connection to the seasons, enhance one's ability to focus on specific tasks (especially useful in education environments), or to appreciate the tranquility of a space. A small detail can make the world of difference and a thoroughly resolved concept from plan through to operation can be a revelation.

design

What is design?

In its simplest form design is problem solving.  More than that it is a critical aspect to how humans interact with and appreciate our environment.   It permeates all aspects of our life and on all scales.  From how we orientate ourselves through a city to the texture of a handle when we open a door or how the sunlight filters through a screen.   Design requires interpretation, manipulation, composition, instinct, understanding, rationalising and constant re-assessment.  There is never a clear correct design response, and thankfully variations and alternatives are continuously explored to ensure our environments are filled with diversity.

what makes it good?

Good design is perhaps an intangible item when assessing object but more appropriately described as something we can experience.  How do we feel when in the space or using an object,  how does it respond to the environment, how does it facilitate operation, how does it expand on the requirements and provide more than anticipated, how does it promote community, or privacy, or influence our understanding of the surroundings.  There is of course subjective responses to the aesthetics of design and as architects we need to interpret our clients preferences with our own professional understanding of design to provide an appropriate response.  There is however an underlying quality of design independent of aesthetics that makes the product  good. There are countless subtleties and often not so subtle elements to design that enhance our experience of life, and it is these experiences that Resonance d+a aims to explore.

budget

Good design does not need to be costly.  In fact good design should provide efficiencies in structure, circulation, material and so forth that is reflected in the construction costs.  It should also incorporate value adding opportunities to improve the overall product useability and ultimately saleability.  These can be simple matters such as designing for passive thermal control and natural light distribution, fundamental to everything we do as architects yet all too often ignored in our production line market.  Often identifying opportunities between buildings can provide additional cost effective usable spaces that can increase the functionality and enhance the quality of the internal spaces.  At Resonance d+a we believe architecture should be continuously exploring these opportunities  and have discovered some of the most loved spaces in our projects are those that have been included as additional or ancillary spaces to the core brief.
